“Superman,” released on July 11, 2025, marks a fresh start for the iconic hero within James Gunn’s new DC Universe. The plot quickly escalates when Superman’s seemingly heroic intervention in a conflict between two countries, Boravia and Jarhanpur, draws the attention and suspicion of the U.S. government. Brilliant but megalomaniacal billionaire Lex Luthor seizes this opportunity, subtly fueling doubts about Superman’s intentions. Luthor, who secretly controls a super-powered individual known as Ultraman (the “Hammer of Boravia”), orchestrates an attack that badly injures Superman, forcing him to retreat to his Fortress of Solitude.

Luthor, driven by a deep-seated contempt for Superman and a desire to expose him as a threat, invades the Fortress, steals a crucial Kryptonian message, and abducts Superman’s super-dog, Krypto. As Superman recovers and, with the help of other emerging heroes like Green Lantern (Guy Gardner), Mister Terrific, and Hawkgirl, confronts Luthor’s escalating schemes, Luthor broadcasts the full Kryptonian message to the world. This message, previously unheard by Superman, shockingly urges him to conquer Earth. Public opinion turns against Superman, leading him to voluntarily surrender to the government, where he is placed in Luthor’s custody.
