The story follows the brutal rise of Deepak (Rajkummar Rao), a young man from humble beginnings in Allahabad, who is consumed by a relentless hunger for power and a desire to enter politics. Witnessing the injustices and class struggles around him, particularly after his family’s farmland is destroyed by a corrupt politician’s men, Deepak chooses a path of crime. He quickly establishes himself as a feared figure in the underworld, earning the moniker “Maalik” (meaning “owner” or “boss”) from his cronies and even the police. His journey is marked by a willingness to resort to bribery, intimidation, and ruthless murders to eliminate anyone who stands in his way, including his own mentor, politician Shankar Singh (Saurabh Shukla).

As Maalik’s empire expands, he faces constant threats from rival gangs, corrupt politicians, and a determined police officer, Prabhu Das (Prosenjit Chatterjee), who is set on bringing him down. The film is a raw and intense portrayal of his fight for supremacy, filled with betrayals and escalating violence. Amidst this bloody ascent, Maalik also tries to balance his criminal life with his personal one, especially with his wife, Shalini (Manushi Chhillar), who becomes his emotional anchor.
